It’s Gonna be May!

Well, it’s finally warming up a bit out there! After what seems like a lifetime with cold, rainy days, the clouds have parted and the sun is shining! It’s not quite sunbathing weather just yet but it’s certainly a nice start to May.

It was also a super exciting start to the month, with the Victorian Extravaganza filling up the streets of Llandudno with exciting shows, exhilerating rides and exceptional steam engines. The atmosphere was palpable throughout the town and on Bodafon Farm, in an event which draws thousands of visitors every year since 1986!

Fringe Benefits

Prov played our part in the Extravaganza by being one of the hosts for the new Extravaganza Fringe festival! We had some amazing comedians and magicians performing in Provstretcher (our extended seating area and events room) over all three days. Everyone involved had a great time and we’re looking forward to making it bigger and even better next year!

Going the Extra Mile

While you’re waiting for your takeaway coffee, you may have noticed The Extra Mile guide near the till. The Extra Mile is “here to steer you away from mediocre, expensive motorway service stations and garage forecourt food and into the arms of the UK’s best farm shops, independent cafes, and cosy pubs, all within striking distance of motorway junctions and main A roads.”

Pick one up from Providero Llandudno today and have a look for Prov in the Wales section! Keep an eye on our socials, we may just have a competition involving these brilliant guides sometime soon…

SilverSmithing Workshop

We’re excited to announce that Noctua Jewellery & Workshops are returning to Prov on June 24th for a Silversmithing Workshop!

According to Sally from Noctua: “We are a small independent business based at the North Docks in Liverpool, and we run silversmithing workshops where our attendees can learn how to create their own bespoke pieces of jewellery. The pieces that can be made range from rings and bangles, to earrings and pendants and are completely unique to the individual who makes them.”

The Price of a Good Cup of Coffee…

If you’ve been into Prov over the past few days, you may have noticed that we’ve taken our menu boards down for a short time. This is partly due to us adding a couple of new items to the board (look out for the return of our Seasonal Salad, coming soon!) but mostly down to us needing to increase some of our prices. We absolutely understand the effect this can have on all of our customers, so we just want to explain why this is happening.

The price increase of coffee has a few contributing factors, including but not limited to: global warming, the rise in material prices, the effect of Covid 19 and ongoing conflicts around the world.

With higher temperatures and wider temperature swings, crops have been damaged and reduced, causing higher globbal demand for green coffee. Less rainfall and reduced access to clean water has also affected crop yield. The world’s largest coffee producer, Brazil, has been especially affected by climate change, with the South American country having the lowest reserve of coffee in more than twenty years!

Also contributing to the rising cost of coffee is the impact of the invasin of Ukraine, rising costs of transportation and the lingering effects that Covid 19 has had on travel, distribution and demand for goods.

At Prov, we are commited to buying high quality products so that we can make the best coffees possible for our guests. If we were to resort to buying low-grade coffee (which is not only sourced poorly and unsustainably but has less care for local, coffee producing communities) then we would be letting you down by supplying a lesser product.

Quarter Horse Coffee, based in Birmingham, have a really informative post explaining all of this and more on their blog. Check it out here.

Thanks and see you soon!
